Warning or Delight? At the winding edge of this journey, Brandon apparently feels the need to raise the bar by getting LOST, alone, in the desert, at night. “I was on a trail and then the trail disappeared. Should I be worried about snakes, tarantulas and scorpions?” Yes. But no, mostly cacti. I can see his flashlight (thank you for taking that) shining WAY too far from the road…so I begin waving mine and eventually we convene at the cow fence crossing gate:) There is much rejoicing!…and in the morning the sky is red…
But these sailors take little warning:) We ride past the San Francisco Peaks of Flagstaff into Bobs last setting sun…to the border of California once again. Forking Heck, we shoulda got gas in Arizona!! Sheesh! Home sweet pocket robbing home.
At 5 am the Coyotes howl, as the sun begins to rise over the Mojave desert. That’s right, we have followed the MAP (see below) and landed at our last stop: Hole in the Wall Campground!! Our final drive through Central Valley farmland is sleepy but uplifting…as empty dirt fields that once posted poorly penned signs declaring a “Congress Created Dust Bowl” have been retaken by the natural, native landscape once again…
We did it!
Love the map!
