Phase Floating House has finally come to a level and levitated conclusion! Once the foundation reached its full week cure we laid and affixed our sills. We then began lifting, using 4 bottle jacks at alternating locations and were able to raise the sunken corner by 2 1/4 inches, as level as we’re gonna get!! We cut all of our new studs slightly oversized, gave one last pump of the jacks, and slowly lowered the house down onto its new bones. The temporary supports were then removed, the studs were sistered and screwed (or Bad-Assened, for those in the lexicon) and the foundation got a moisture sealing coat of Black Jack.
All of these rebuilding steps happen over the course of multiple days mind you, and our final day is the skin! With some creative shimming, and Brandon’s expert “piece measuring and pointing” skills, we have the exterior sub-sheeted and Tyveked just in time for a day of rain and much needed rest.
PS. If you thought we were DONE with concrete…:) There is one final section behind the house that the truck couldn’t reach. Now that the main part of the house is solid, we don’t really have to support…so we cut the studs, made some simpler forms and mixed 4 more bags ourselves. Hopefully it will be cured enough by tomorrow to sill and sister up…before a team of Roofers starts climbing all over the house on Monday!! Cheers:)
I have read every post twice, and I still don’t know how you did it. Great job!
I just love that you both did this yourselves. I’m convinced there’s nothing you two can’t do.
