When we cross the border into Montana a smokey haze still hangs over the mountains…
But for an afternoon, finally, we are able to outrun the haze and take a full plunge into the icy mountain waters of the Clark Fork River. We are in silver and quartz mining country and the sand shimmers. Dragons and driftwood forts guard.
We motor on to a lovely lake campsite in a cow pasture. Unfortunately all the good “firewood” is stuck in the ground and wrapped with barbed wire…so we are forced to burn our leveling blocks. And there is much rejoicing!
