Here we sit on a cold and drizzly Sunday, thoroughly unimpressed by “Hurricane Henri,” so it seemed like a good time for an update. Sledge and breaker bar made swift work of the rest of our crumbling foundation. Our 4 feet deep holes didn’t work out quite as planned, when we discovered that the entire house is actually sitting on a pile of giant stones! We are quite happy to pour our new foundation right on top and leave it that way.
Formwork for the new foundation is now nearly complete beneath the 2 exterior and interior walls, including the kitchen and downstairs bathroom (which is now temporarily sans toilette.) Just a bit more reinforcement, a bottom fill of gravel, and we will be ready for 3 yards of concrete to arrive by mixer truck Wed afternoon!
Meanwhile, it seemed like a good time to enjoy the last months of summer with a brand new outdoor shower below the back deck! Definitely not fancy, but a good start… warm, lit, and overlooking late season flowers and our lone tomato plant.
