On Christmas Eve the temperature was in the mid 50s amidst torrential downpours. The river rose almost 2 feet in a matter of hours as mass snow melt combined with the rain. We frantically made dams and dug creeks to route the excess water away from the house and towards the river. And then the temperature plummeted by 39 degrees over night…!
Above you can see 4 before/after sets of images around the property. Here are a few more neat ice sculptures created by the flood/freeze. The “rabbits” formed beneath bridges on Trickle Creek and are saved in our freezer:)
Now halfway through January, the weather, while less dramatic, is no more consistent. We take advantage of an unfrozen pond knowing that overnight it could become an ice sheet again. Every day is a Toss-Up…so lets make pizza!
It’s good to leave the estate once in a while too. We make it to the top of Pine Ridge overlooking Winnipesaukee, with cold drippy noses. The sunset through the trees is an inspiration as I finish my first forest painting!
