Halloween is past, daylight savings approaches and the darkness closes in. But our spirits are high as we triumphantly conclude the “major structural issue” chapter of our home renovation process…
Despite having to remove the bottom 4 inches of the upstairs bathroom wall (which was built at the slant of the floor) the lift went relatively smoothly! With much terrifying creaking and complaining (by both wood AND workers), the worst sagging joists “straitened up” by almost 2 inches as we slowly jacked our steel beams into position. Both beams are now level and supporting all joists, resting on 4x4s at either end. Ready to seal up the end walls and build a stone stove hearth!
Just upriver from us is a place on the Merrymeeting that we call “Infinity Edge.” You can see it from the road…where the water widens and then suddenly just ends, falling over the edge of an invisible dam. So one beautiful day we decided to follow the river from our property and find the other side!
Here we are testing different methods of river crossing. The jury is still out as to which was easiest…but amazingly not even a shoe got soaked!
Eventually we hear the sound of crashing water getting closer and closer. We arrive just as the setting sun hits a perfect angle on Infinity Edge. On the way back we pay more attention to fascinating fungi, and Brandon hugs a giant Oak Burl!
